This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use
opendiscussion.space and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
We will make changes to this policy from time to time and notify you about these changes.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy regularly to stay informed about our information practices

Basics
-
We collect the minimum information (the ones you provide us directly) needed to run a thoughtful community
(account details, your posts, basic analytics, and payment info via our processor). We don’t sell your data.
-
Your profile and public posts are visible to others, and may be indexed by search engines.
Private account data is not.
-
You control what you share, your profile, and your account settings. You can access, correct, or delete your data
subject to legal and operational limits.
-
We use trusted service providers (hosting, analytics, email, payments, moderation).
They only use your data to help us run Open Discussion.
-
Security matters. Perfect security doesn’t exist, but we protect your data with industry-standard measures.
-
If anything here makes you itchy, email
contact@opendiscussion.space.
Humans read it.
Full Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy affects all users: passive users (casual visitors) and active users (account holders).
You are a visitor if you simply visit the site, read, and explore. When you create an account
for the purpose of engaging the community (posting articles and media, responding to questions, etc.),
you become an active user.
Depending on which category you fall into, we collect two main kinds of information: Personal
and Technical. For passive users, there is minimal exchange of Personal Information as we collect
only Technical Information, but we collect both for active users.
Definitions
Personal Information, as defined by the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union
(“GDPR”), is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person; an identifiable natural person
is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name,
an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical,
physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.
Personal Information
Personal Information (otherwise known as “personal data” under laws like the GDPR) means any information relating
to an identified or identifiable natural person. Subject to how you engage the Service, this may include:
-
Basic identifiers: name, username, email address, profile photo, bio, etc.
-
Account and profile information: your settings, preferences, membership status, topics or creators you follow.
-
Content you share: posts, comments, messages you send us, files you upload and any information contained in that content.
-
Transactional information: purchase history, subscription plan, and limited billing details
(we do not collect your card details or other sensitive information related to your finances).
-
Online identifiers and usage data: IP address, user IDs, and cookie identifiers associated with your account or device.
We do not intend to collect “special categories” of personal data (such as health information, political opinions,
or religious beliefs) unless you choose to share them in your content. If you publish such information,
you do so voluntarily and it becomes part of your User Content.
Technical Information
Technical Information refers to information generated or collected when you use or interact with the Service.
These help us operate, secure, and improve the Service. Subject to your device and settings, this may include:
-
Device and browser information: device type, operating system, browser type and version,
language, timezone, and other basic device info.
-
Log and usage data: IP address, dates and times of access, viewed pages, clicked links,
features engaged, session duration, referring/exiting pages, and error or performance logs.
-
Online identifiers: cookie identifiers, pixel tags, and similar technologies used to remember your preferences,
keep you logged in, and measure the use of the Service.
-
Approximate location: city, region, or country inferred from your IP address
(we do not use precise GPS-level location).
Some Technical Information is treated as Personal Information where it can identify you directly or indirectly
(for example, an IP address or cookie identifier linked to your account). Where that is the case, we handle it in accordance
with applicable data protection laws and the rest of this Privacy Policy.

You can usually control cookies through your browser settings. If you disable certain cookies, some features of the Service
may not work properly.
Third-Party Services and Advertising
The Service may link to or integrate with third‑party services (for example, analytics, payment processors,
or embedded media). Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
We do not control how these third parties collect or use your information, but we aim to work with providers
that respect user privacy.
Legal Bases (EEA/UK Users)
We process your Personal Information where one or more of the following legal bases apply:

Contract: to provide and operate the Service you sign up for.
-
Legitimate interests: to maintain and improve the Service, secure our systems,
prevent abuse, and support our community, provided these interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.
-

Legal obligation: to comply with laws, regulations, and legal processes.
US Residents (California and Similar Laws)
If you are a resident of California or a similar jurisdiction with state‑level privacy laws, you may have specific rights,
such as the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the right to request access or deletion,
and the right to opt out of certain data sharing. We will honor applicable rights requests as required by law.
To exercise these rights, contact us at
contact@opendiscussion.space.
Effective Date
This policy takes effect on January 1st, 2026.
We built Open Discussion on the belief that humans only reach their full potential within a community.
That means trust is the real currency. We will only collect what is necessary, explain the need,
give you control, and work with privacy‑respecting defaults where it makes sense.
